new developments
hey there friends! hopefully you’ve heard about the game i am trying to spin up for hazbin hotel. if not, please check that out here and get caught up to speed! i recently had a new idea come to me, and i am really excited to get into it.
the interior decorating game is still something i am planning on doing, but there are so many “ifs” in my way, i started brainstorming some other ideas. the main issue i am facing is licensing/copyright. i would hate to get shut down if amazon/vivziepop don’t approve. for all i know, they could have already purchased the rights to a game or mobile app and could be developing it as i type this. it’s a scary road to walk down, and the last thing i want is to get a cease and desist in the mail. (maybe i could get vivzie’s autograph though?…)
but i recently had an idea come to me that i think would let me skate under the radar AND give the people/my viewers what they want.
i have received hundreds of comments asking me “what game” or “name of the game” i am playing to create the sprites. at first i thought they were asking about the game idea i had already proposed and would gleefully tell them to check out my pinned video explaining my idea of an interior decorating game.
i didn’t discover until months later and engaging with dozens of those comments that i had it all wrong. the impression they had was that i was playing a mobile app dress up game to create the sprites rather than actually drawing them. to be honest, it really bugged me for a long time when i made that realization. i felt i wasn’t being perceived as an artist.
i had to get over it quickly and find something to do with this information. then i had the thought come to me… “if they want a hazbin hotel dress up game… i’ll just have to give it to them.“
in my original idea of making an interior decorating game, i had already planned to include a custom character creator. but that game is going to take a long time to develop, and it seems to me what people are most interested in when they see my art is a dress up game where they could make their own hazbin hotel sprites. so i am going to propose the dress up “hellsona” game on tiktok soon once i get a little bit more drawn up.
this could allow me to release an app heavily inspired by hazbin hotel, but not necessarily be a huge copyright infringement. it’s more beneficial to me, and possibly my viewers/prospective players! i would also be able to release this much faster than the original planned game.
please tell me what you think down below! i love hearing ideas from my fellow hellions.
